Can I add an SRV record for my domain?

It is possible to create an SRV record for a domain if it’s using our our BasicDNSFreeDNS or PremiumDNS nameservers:

1. Sign into your Wvphost account (The Sign In option is available in the header of the page).

2. Mouse over the Account option in the upper right corner of the page and choose Domain List or select the Domain List menu in the bar on your left:

3. Click on the Manage option in front of the domain name you wish to set DNS records for:

4. Click on the Advanced DNS tab and find the Host records section >  the Add New Record button (not able to edit Host Records?):

Select SRV Record for Type and insert the following values:

Service: name of the desired service
Protocol: transport protocol of a desired service
Priority: priority of the target host — the lower its value, the more preferable it is
Weight: relative weight for records with the same priority. The higher the value, the more preferable it is
Port: TCP/UDP port where the service is located
Target: hostname of the machine providing the service
TTL: our default TTL is 30 minutes, so you may leave this option unchanged

Please note that the Target value can be either yourdomain.tld/sub.domain.tld or some custom value given by the service provider: someserver.tld/some.server.tldetc.
In case you have this custom value, you will not need to create the A record for your domain/subdomain.

Here is the example of an SRV record created for a bare domain:

Here is the screenshot for a bare domain with custom Target received from the service provider:

You may also create it for a subdomain in the following way (adding your subdomain to Protocol and Target or to Protocol only if  you have a custom Target):

Once all details are inserted, save them using the Save changes green icon.

Please note that it may take 30 minutes for a newly created record to take effect.

That's it!
